Permits you’ll need
A building and electrical permit. Submittal includes a site plan with panel layout, an electrical single-line diagram, structural load calculations, equipment data sheets, and the utility interconnection agreement. Systems over 10 kW need a PE stamp.
How to submit
Apply online through Plano’s eTRAKiT portal. You must be a registered contractor/designer to submit electronically, so a DIY homeowner generally files through a registered electrical contractor here.
Fast-track option
Plano targets a 3-business-day turnaround on residential permit review — fast for the metro.
Fees & timeline
No fees at initial submission; they’re due after review. Plan for contractor-validation paperwork at that point.
Outside city limits
In unincorporated Collin County or a neighboring city (Frisco, McKinney, Allen…), you permit through that jurisdiction instead.
Permit in hand? The next step is requesting grid interconnection from Oncor — see its rates, buyback, fees, and application links. Or go back to the full Texas solar guide.
